New Years Eve in Sydney! Need I say more? I went to the
Royal Botanical Gardens by myself at 8 am to see the fireworks at midnight. I
got in and met heaps of people who also were doing the same. We basically had
ourselves a little picnic with food, beer, and music! The fireworks were
incredible! Just look at the photos.
The next morning (January 1, 2014), it was my last day and
night in Sydney, so I went to all the key areas one last time like the Opera
House, Harbour Bridge, Darling Harbour, the Rocks, and more. It took the whole
day to walk around. I decided it might not be bad to do one last run through of
Oxford St. before I left, so I was on my way to wherever, and I looked at the
wrong side of the road (like the American side) and almost died by a taxi.
There I met a very valuable friend, Stephen from Melbourne. He and a group of
his friends were going to get coffee before hitting the bars, so I went with
them and had a great time! They left early, but Stephen told me he will get
into Melbourne the day after I do, and that we should get together and party
properly together in Melbourne. I stayed back a little later and went home! I
basically didn’t sleep and went to the train station with all my stuff. I
thought I was going to miss my flight because I was cutting really close on
with the train, but I made it! YAY!!
Now in Melbourne (January 2, 2014), I got to my hostel, and
couldn’t check in till one. It’s 10 am. I just slept in the lounge because I
got no sleep from New Year’s Day. After my nap, I checked in and took a shower,
and walked around Melbourne for couple hours and came home early. I picked up a
bottle of wine on the way home and drank that, and I was asleep.
The next morning, the weather was fantastic! The sky was
clear and the sun felt great with a light cool breeze. I went to Victoria
Market for some fresh fruits, which were delicious! I got to Google Hangout
with my family all over the United States that afternoon too back in the
hostel. It was great to see that they were adjusting well back at home!
After the conversation, I left again for an adventure to the
1956 Olympic Park! They got rid of the pool, so I guess I’m not swimming in
Melbourne. I ventured to other different monuments around Melbourne! As cool as
Melbourne is, it lacks any big landmarks like the Sydney Opera House or other
things of that nature. I did see some interesting things in regards to culture,
art, and something a little more edgy that Sydney as a tourist city lacked.
That night, I joined Stephen from Sydney in Melbourne. He told me he would show
me a great time, so I went to see him at a rooftop cocktail bar called Cabinet.
It was so nice to sit up there and enjoy good company and conversation with a
great cocktail. Interesting person that’s for sure! Later in the evening, he
took me a gay bar called the Greyhound Hotel where I saw not only fabulous drag
queen, but also, I saw some amazing dancers prancing with the queen. More drinks
later, we headed to a after club bar in Melbourne called the Peel. This is the
usual round that the Melbourne gay scene makes Stephen told me. We stayed out
there till 6am with tequila shots and gin and tonics. I was too fucking drunk. I
saw the sunrise on my way home, and I snapchatted the Party Veterans. I am home
and in bed.
